Open source African Research Methods

The book consists of twenty six chapters in two sections. Section 1 focuses primarily on the theoretical aspects of conducting a research project. The chapters in section 1 will define and explain concepts as well as provide some relevant guidelines, sources and critiques within each chapter area. Examples used to illustrate a particular concept will be primarily from the South African or developing country context.

Section 2 focuses primarily on the practical application of a particular method in the South African context. The chapters in section 2 will consist of an explanation of the method and a practical example illustrating the use of the method, issues to consider when using the method, limitations and advantages of the method. Key considerations in this section include but are not restricted to: access to resources, working with diverse target populations, the relationship between research and policy in the South African landscape.
